The OC Fair & Event Center
88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, California 92626
One of my favorite things to do while attending the OC Fair is to sample all of the different kinds of foods the OC Fair has to offer. Take my advice, do not try to sample all of the different types of food served in one day! Come back often and avoid the tummy aches!
As I had mentioned in my earlier post yesterday about the OC Fair and Event Center, I was able to walk the park as the Fairground workers were putting the finishing touches on the rides, booths, and everything else in general. It is amazing to be able to walk around without having to fight the crowds and see all of the different places and things to eat! I could not believe all of the colorful food vendor booths through out the park. I was getting hungry just taking pictures of them!
Places to eat while at the 2012 OC Fair
Let’s start with a OC Fair favorite, the Giant Funnel Cakes! What are Funnel Cakes you ask? Well, they are like a weird giant pancake, but I think they taste a lot better then pancakes. They are made out of eggs, milk, sugar, flour, salt and baking powder. You mix them all together and then pour the batter into a funnel. You then take the funnel which is full of the batter and funnel the batter into oil that is 350 degrees. You want to overlap the batter to create a “cake” that will form a solid shape that you can flip, to brown the other side. Once both sides are golden brown, drain on paper towels and top with powdered sugar. The outside has a great little crunch, and the inside is light a fluffy…..YUMMY!
If you are looking for something more filling, you could always stop by the Burger Joint and enjoy one of their awesome hamburgers with a side of french fries!
Or maybe you prefer some tasty south of the border Mexican food! Some of the awesome items on the menu they are offering are Taco’s, Burritos, Licuados, Sopes, Tortas and Jugos. By the way, I just found out from my friend Nancy the Jugo is juice in Spanish!
If you have a sweet tooth, be sure and stop by “Sweeties” and enjoy their cotton candy, popcorn, candy apples and other great tasting sweet things!
The name pretty much says it all! Each year, these guys come up with another tasty deep fried treat for you to sample at the OC Fair. This year, the new invention is a deep-fried Klondike Bar! I remember when everyone had to have a deep fried Twinkie! If your doctor has given you a clean bill of health, well then be sure to try the “Coronary Combo”! Or how about chocolate covered bacon???
Juicys Outlaw Grill is cooking up some killer “Texas Sized” Turkey Legs, Giant Western Sausage, Outlaw Burgers and of course you have to try the crowd favorite “Sausage on a stick”
Juicys has two booths set up! A smaller one over by the speedway race track and a huge tractor trailer by the big red barn!
Boy, talking about all this food is making me really thirsty! Nothing like an ice cold beer to help you wash down all of these wonderful favors! Be sure to bring your ID as you will NOT be served any aclohol without one! The Orange County Sheriff runs the show and they are looking for minors drinking, so be careful!
What’s a day at the OC Fair without some fresh roasted corn on the cob?
Or one of the original “Hot Dogs on a Stick”?
Okay I saved the best for last folks…. This is a first for me. Maybe I just didn’t see this before. You know it gets crowded at the OC Fair and sometimes you missed things…. Well I have never seen a Sushi Bar at the OC Fair before. But there it was, right over by the big red barn along with Juicys Big Rig! Now I will have to stop by and see this. Don’t get me wrong, Sharon and I love Sushi, but sushi at the OC Fair grounds right across the way from the livestock? We will just to have see now won’t we?
Well, I am hungry now. I hope this helps you in your search for some good ole OC Fair fixings!
